Blood & Sand is a private bar and restaurant in downtown St. Louis. It was conceived as a laboratory for creativity.
When TJ Vytlacil and Adam Frager (famed St. Louis mixologists) approached me and my husband/creative partner Rob Fieldhouse to help conceive, design and launch their dream establishment, we jumped at the chance. We worked from start to finish with these brilliant and passionate entrepreneurs on the branding, interior design, and marketing. The end result is an elegant and inviting space, designed for socializing and delighting the palette. We continue to work with them to improve their offerings to members and market their unique concept. Below you'll see some of the aspects we were particularly responsible for creating.
Since launch, the Blood & Sand has received loads of positive reviews in local publications and in social media. You can read more at the website. We are thrilled to be part of it all.
If you haven't yet, come check out Blood & Sand at 1500 Saint Charles, St. Louis, MO 63103. The food and cocktails will knock your socks off. Tell 'em Lee sent you.Interior Design, Art Direction, Branding2012 -
Brown Shoe (an international footwear corporation) was undergoing a massive upgrade in their internal technology and processes in partnership with SAP, a global business management software and consultancy corporation. This was the kind of epic project that touches tens of hundreds of employees across all departments. In the weeks leading up to the official launch of these new systems, they wanted to create a sense of anticipation and excitement about the big changes happening within the company.
We created a rotating screensaver to be used on computer monitors company-wide. We also created a series of posters that were displayed in elevators and hallways.Art Direction, Copywriting2011 -
Salt is a farm-to-table restaurant specializing in seasonal and local foods. I created the identity, print collateral, website and ads.Art Direction, Graphic Design, Web Design2011 -
Based on the huge popularity of the "Change Is Coming" posters and screensaver, Brown Shoe wanted to follow it up with a related campaign. The SAP technology roll-out was happening in stages, a few departments at a time. They wanted this campaign to highlight each individual's role and responsibilities in the changing technological landscape of the company. We worked closely with their Transition Team to ensure the messaging and tone were on target.Art Direction, Copywriting2010 -
Taste is the brainchild of Ted Kilgore, one of the country's top mixologists, and James Beard Award nominee Gerard Craft. It is a gorgeous, cozy little bar and restaurant that hearkens back to the days before Prohibition and wouldn't be out of place in Brooklyn's cocktail scene.
They came to us to create the identity, menu design and website. Ted wanted something a little steampunk and a little old school - something that stood out from other local restaurants. I created custom illustrations of culinary "machines" and food and bar-themed headers for the menu and website.Art Direction, Illustration2010 -
Our client Brown Shoe has a longstanding partnership with Two Ten, a charitable foundation offering Financial Assistance, Counseling, Community Resources and Scholarships to people working in the footwear industry. Our client wanted to educate their employees about the myriad services and opportunities available to them through Two Ten but also wanted to avoid the depressing images so often associated with emergency relief services.
Playground created a friendly and upbeat campaign, including a screensaver and a suite of print posters and displays.Art Direction, Copywriting2010 -
Shortly after we founded Playground Creative in the summer of 2007, we decided we needed a big cool project to wet our chops, gel the team and get our name out. Tom had been nursing this idea for a non-profit that engaged the local music scene to create events that raised food, funds and awareness for child hunger relief in St. Louis. Thus LiveFeed was born.
We built it from scratch, fueled by excitement, ambition and a touch of young-and-hungry naivete. I was primarily responsible for strategy, drafting legal and marketing copy, designing the identity and website as well as event posters and other ephemera.
LiveFeed went on to win the prestigious Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation Award from Washington University's Skandalaris Center. We hosted dozens of successful music events around St. Louis and raised over 55,000 lbs of food.Art Direction, Entrepreneurship, Philanthropy2011 -
Panera, one of the fastest growing restaurant chains in America, approached us about creating a different kind of eLearning experience to help train their employees about the story of their coffee. They wanted to infuse the experience with compelling narrative and engaging graphics. They wanted something different than anything they had done before. And they needed it in 4 weeks.
We worked with their education team and developers to create the concept and strategy and then we designed all of the graphic elements for the 45 minute course. Each of the five "chapters" highlighted a major step in the journey of the bean from field to cup. It was immense fun and we will never look at a good cup of coffee again without appreciation for all that goes into making it.Interaction Design2009 -
Eric Garland is a futurist, which means he advises big companies about what the trends are forecasting for the future and what they should do to prepare. He needed a speaker video to promote his services to the conference industry but hated the usual "old guy on a stage with PowerPoint" clips he was seeing from his competitors. He wanted something different and engaging, on a shoestring budget.
I worked with Tangent Mind LLC to design and produce the video below. I used the style created in the video to create various promotional print materials for Competitive Futures, Eric's company. I also designed the cover and text layout for Eric's newest book, a sarcastic and informative spoof on 1990's era business books.Graphic Design, Print Design, Video Arts2011 -
The professional business and life coaching industry is a fast blossoming one. We created an on-line business and client relationship management tool purpose-built to fit this niche industry. The result was Coach Accountable, a sleek, intuitive web 2.0 user experience featuring a wide variety of applications to help coaches streamline their business and enhance their client's experience.
We boot-strapped the whole project. The work included concept and strategy, wire-framing and designing user interface, creating and managing real-world usability studies, and marketing.Art Direction, Entrepreneurship, User Interface Design2011 -
